Treating Toddler Fevers

It all started a few days ago, Tuesday to be exact. A little sniffle turned into a little cough which turned into a little sneeze which turned into a fever of 38.4C. One child sick and one child good. Fever under control, sneezes under control, cough under control and sniffles gone.

Then Friday came. It all started again. But now both kids are sick and my 15 month old (Madison) with a fever of 39.2C which resulted in a really long sleepless night for me.

I think one of the worst things about a child getting a cold is the fever. You feel helpless as your childs body temperature sky rockets and you try everything in your power to make it all better.

From experience, the following are the 4 steps I took to treat my little ones fever:
  1. Administered medicine. I only gave her additional doses during the day according to how sick she was as opposed to whether the fever had dropped to zero
  2. Dressed Madison in a minimum amount of clothing
  3. Sponged her with a lukewarm washcloth
  4. Promoted lots of liquid and rest
The measures taken last night resulted in a lower fever, a happier child and a happier mommy. Unfortunately, we still have a lingering fever and a miserable cold stricken baby girl.

I have a feeling I will be repeating my 4 steps once again tonight.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions on how to zap that unwanted toddler fever please do share. Wish me luck tonight!

  1. Poor dear! I'm so sorry for your children!
I'm sure they will be better very soon.
I also feel bad when my children are sick. I'm thinking of you. Tell me when they are fine. :)
